Approved Marine Customer Scheme (AMCS)
The Approved Marine Customer Scheme (AMCS) simplifies compliance for ship owners and managers purchasing goods for international commercial vessels.
Purpose
An Approved Marine Customer Scheme (AMCS) simplifies compliance for ship owners and ship managers purchasing goods for use on international commercial vessels.
Benefits of AMCS
In accordance with the scheme, the Approved Marine Customer (AMC) will enjoy zero-rating on purchases or rentals of goods procured by the AMC in the course of its business provided that either the goods are used as stores or fuel on, installation on, use in the maintenance or operation of an internationally bound commercial ship or that the goods have been procured by the AMC (whether by purchase or rental) in the course of its business.
For ship owners, zero-rating applies to goods purchased or rented for use or installation on internationally bound commercial ships.
For ship managers, zero-rating applies to the purchase or rental of goods used or installed on internationally bound commercial vessels.
Supplying to AMCs
Whenever you provide goods to an AMC (via sale or rental), you must verify that your customer is an AMC at the time of supply. In order to zero-rate your supply to the AMC, you will also need to obtain the necessary documents from the AMC.
